Simple Information:
What are taums?

Taums are humanoid bird-bear creatures. They are hermits of galaxies, dimensions, and worlds, traveling from place to place until they've found the perfect one to settle in.

What are they made of?

They are made of human-like parts: finger-like paws that works like a human hand and legs that resemble a human's.

Bears: any breed or bear makes up the body stature and claws, as well as the teeth underneath the taum's bird beak.

Birds: any species can be used, but barn owls are the most common.

Whats their purpose? Why do they exist?

To learn, guard, and find their purpose. Some will travel to many places trying to find the best place to settle down. Others will give their lives to magic, some to technology, while others even stay home in their forests.


Descriptive information:

Taums are a species of bird mixed in with bears. The most common: the barn owl and brown bear. Features such as having thin legs with that looks like a human's feet and two mouths instead of one to feed or talk, is a special marking for these creatures. They are intelligent creatures, and can understand the arcane, technology, lore and language. But they would rather just enjoy their natural land and habitat, and if they must dabble in it they shall.

Height ranges: 9 inches to 10 ft. Weight: 4 lbs to 1200lbs (the heavier they are the less ability they have to glide.) Age limit: 40 if they have magical properties, it may be shorter. Some find ways to live for much much longer.

Weapons: Bear claws, (some of which are shaped and sharpened to their liking) and bear fangs. They do not have any molars, and do not eat plants well, but if they do they just crush it with their tongues against their teeth or swallow whole.

Paws: Underneath their claws there is padding. The padding is flexible and shaped like human fingers. These can grab and hold onto items, making it easier for taums to interact. Their claws are connected to their wrists and forearms.

Clothing: Not really desired, they have fur and feathers that are very thick and soft which protect them from most weather. Items: They do use some items and tools to help them out. They don’t shy away from them.

Genders and procreation: Males and females are indistinguishable; they don’t matter. There is no difference to tell who is who. A simple ask would suffice for most. They give birth like bears: no eggs are involved in the hatching and the baby taums are called ‘cubs’. Taums and cubs are only available through auction adoption or by customs.

Abilities: Glide/free fall. Their feather and fur mix well together to give them ability to jump and float for a while. It's not flying, but falling with style. Because of their feathers and fur, they have a special ability so that when in the air or moving they are completely silent. Taums are a very quiet species, talking isn’t required for the most part.

Habitat: Trees and forests are their favorites. Some hang out in the sunniest of places, others love the darkest. Some even decided to walk the stars and clouds. They are natural hermits, they will find somewhere to live where no one has ever thought of.

Prey: they can eat nearly everything, or anything that it's able to get its grubby paws on. This causes some taums to eat something they aren’t supposed to. They don’t like dirt/stone/metal (there are a rare few though). But if they want to scare you they’ll crunch it down in front of you to prove a point.

Beak: The beak is useful, the taum can use it to speak and eat smaller things. When using this beak it’s meant to be a friendly gesture, or trying to look nice before dinner begins. The voice that comes out of this mouth is lighter in tone, and very soft. Almost like silk to someone’s skin.

Bear mouth: Under the face or chin of the taum is the much more dangerous mouth. This mouth has a large radius and can stretch pretty wide. Just as big as a sharks, almost. If the taum speaks through this it’s a much more terrible and rumbling voice. Used when anger is involved or it has no respect for you.


Respect: All taums have respect. They will respect someone’s wishes and ideals, just as long as you show respect back. It’s the bone and soul of these creatures. Prove yourself before them and they will give you that respect you deserve. Prove that you’re not someone meant to be there, someone who doesn’t understand give and take, and someone who is full of themselves... You’re as good as dead depending on what kind of taum you meet. They have no time to deal with you.

Interacting with other species: Here are a list of species that taums also interact with that are cannon:
Taums are pretty good at dealing with others, especially if raised with them or gown to know them. Birdfolks (made by keldel) are very fun to be with for them. They enjoy rough housing and playing around. Though if you want to do some interesting things like magic and robots they wouldn’t mind helping out one bit.


Types of Designs:
Pillow taums: Small round taums
Regular Taums: Medium sized, commonly known to have barn owl and medium features
Magical taums(other taums can learn but magic comes naturally to): has 3 horns
Dire taum: Big taums! Big very scary taums, They have bigger bodies and a much more ferocious appearance to them. They are the taums that will kill you on sight.
